Check out our interview we did with a local Nashville magazine!
Hi Stephanie and Alyssa, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
We started this brand with a vision to create a more inclusive clothing line. Specifically, we wanted to ensure that medically adaptive clothes, especially for children, were functional and fashionable. Currently, there are very few options, and when they do exist, they often lack the cute, stylish elements that other children’s clothing has.
Our goal is to provide families with medically complex children the same choices as any other family so that siblings can have similar pajamas regardless of their needs. One of our founders has a child with complex medical needs and experienced firsthand the frustration of finding suitable, attractive adaptive clothing. This personal connection to an underserved community motivated us to create a brand that caters to this gap in the market.
We’re excited that within our first month of business, we sold over 137 products, which has been a tremendous start for us. We’ve also been fortunate to receive positive feedback, including requests to expand our offerings—especially by adding more medical condition awareness designs and providing customized medically adaptive clothing. Fulfilling these requests has been incredibly rewarding, and it reaffirms the need for what we’re doing.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As with any new venture, it hasn’t been smooth. One of our biggest challenges has been finding the right audience. Reaching medical families who could benefit from our adaptive clothing has required much behind-the-scenes work to identify and connect with the right customers.
Another significant challenge has been finding the right manufacturer, especially for our medically adaptive clothing. Our designs must be not only stylish but also functional for the children who wear them, like ensuring the pajamas and other pieces comfortably accommodate medical devices. This attention to detail has made the manufacturing process more complex.
We’ve also been building up our presence on social media, which, while rewarding, has taken time and effort to grow an engaged community. But every challenge has been a learning experience, and we’ve made steady progress.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I, Stephanie, have built my career in the corporate world. I currently work as a finance manager for a large technology company, overseeing profitability for a specific business sector. I’ve been able to bring those financial skills into our business, focusing on creating sustainable growth. I’m proud of my successful career while balancing motherhood and the opportunity to co-found a company that means so much to me and my best friend.
Alyssa, my co-owner, chose to become a stay-at-home mom after having three children within three years. Her youngest son was born medically complex, which has deeply inspired her to bring awareness and normalcy to families navigating similar challenges. She wanted to start a business that gave her purpose beyond motherhood, but with her son’s need for therapy three times a week, a traditional 9-5 job wasn’t an option. This company was born from her desire to make a difference for others in similar situations.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I think flexibility has been one of the most important qualities in our success. As parents, we know how unpredictable life can be with kids, and that mindset helps us adapt quickly in business, too. It keeps us open to new ideas and constantly looking for improvement.
Being parents ourselves, we also really understand the children’s market. We know what families want in kids’ pajamas—things like comfort and style—but we also have a deeper understanding of the needs of families with medically complex children. That personal experience has shaped many of our adaptive designs.
Beyond that, our determination and openness to feedback have been vital. We love hearing from our customers and using their input to improve products and introduce new designs. Being willing to learn and evolve has played a big role in shaping who we are as a company.
